Cultivating Relational Skills

Evening Session: Thursday 24.02.
Full Days: Friday 25.02. – Monday 28.02.
Evening Session: Tuesday 01.03.

Our lives are webs of social relationships and communication.
In all relationships, we find joy and tensions, the wish that things are different, and we find appreciation, longing and suffering.

In this event participants will cultivate the natural wisdom of awareness while listening and speaking. This dialogic meditation practice strengthens your ability to attune to one another, recognise your capacity for empathy, deepen your listening skills and cultivate moment-to-moment awareness while in relationship. Therefore relational mindfulness leads to being more fully present and caring with others and oneself.

It is based on the relational meditation practice of Insight Dialogue, developed by Dr. Gregory Kramer  and it utilises a distinct method of cultivating mindfulness, concentration, and insight. This method is based on practicing the six guidelines of Insight Dialogue (pause, relax, open, attune to emergence, listen deeply, and speak the truth) while contemplating with a partner or group essential truths of life.

The contemplation topics are universal and can be found in each person’s own experience.

This intensive event offers an opportunity to deepen our meditation practice in the place we most often forget it: Our social interactions.

Learning Objectives

  • To deepen the practice of mindfulness meditation
  • To learn guidelines for increasing awareness in our interactions
  • To recognize habitual ways we react to stress and anxiety in relationship
  • To cultivate wholesome, and release unwholesome, mind states and actions
  • To learn ways of listening to oneself and others more deeply

What to expect?

The way the form is offered allows participants to have the direct experience of pausing out of habitual patterns of reactivity while face-to-face with another person.

Because the contemplations are carefully guided and timed, participants are able to observe the mental and emotional habits that are usually lost in the flow of stressful or even pleasant communications.

As practice deepens, calm concentration improves and insight arises naturally.

The intensive will include silent, guided and dialogic meditations, body awareness practice like Qi Gong and group discussions.

Quotation Mark ImagesDo you have the patience to wait until your mud settles and the water is clear? Can you remain unmoving until the right action arises by itself?

Lao Tzu

Quotation Mark ImagesThe goal of practice is always to keep our beginner’s mind… (which) includes everything within itself.

It is always rich and sufficient within itself. You should not lose your self-sufficient state of mind. This does not mean a closed mind, but actually an empty mind and a ready mind.

If your mind is empty, it is always ready for anything; it is open to everything.

Quotation Mark ImagesThere is a certain kind of peace that is not merely the absence of war. It is larger than that…

The peace I am thinking of is the dance of an open mind when it engages another equally open one.

Quotation Mark ImagesAs we make our own light shine, we unconsciously give others permission to do the same.

As we are liberated from our fear, our presence automatically liberates others.

Quotation Mark ImagesClarity arises when the mind is energetic, mindful, calm, spacious (Pause – Relax – Open) and unattached (Trust Emergence).
