Mindfulness Meditation Retreat
Living with Ease:
Being in alignment with the way things are
Friday 05.11. – Tuesday 09.11.
Residential Event on the Isle of Wight – UK
Our Covid-19 Statement
Your welfare is very important to us!
Therefore despite the continuing easing of Covid-19 measures we, at the Centre for Mindful Living, have made the decision that in general for all our Residential Events in the future, there will be a maximum of 8 people attending.
The events will have mainly Single en-suite rooms with only a couple of sharing possibilities.
Please be reassured that all bookings made for this event will be honoured and a forward credit applied if circumstances change due to the virus.
A student is asking the teacher:
“When heat and cold come, how can I avoid them?”
And the teacher answers:
“Go to the place, where there is no heat or cold.”
The student says:
“Where is that place, where there is no heat or cold?”
And the teacher says:
“When it’s cold, shiver. And when it’s hot, sweat.”
How often in our lives do we seek safety or possibilities to feel more comfortable in difficult moments? Especially nowadays with all the uncertainties, fears or even geopolitical tumults each one of us is facing in life…
Often, we want to find a place, where there is no heat or cold.
Where there is no pain, no difficulties.
That is, how most of us feel. We really believe that we can control the way things are. If we only knew the right technique, we could be beyond the place of cold and heat.
We have developed many strategies with the hope of coping better with the full ‘catastrophe’ of life. And sometimes for a little bit of time, these strategies work, but ultimately, we discover that it doesn’t help all the time. That it doesn’t provide a permanent solution.
What would happen, when we allow the moment to be as it is?
When we stop fighting it.
When we stop trying to fix it.
When we stop running away from it.
When we meet our life as it is!
In mindfulness, we are encouraged to bring awareness to what is present.
And by practicing in this way, we create conditions that transformation can happen.
We invite you to join us in stillness and silence to wake up to the beauty of being alive. To encounter the life we have with freshness and wonder.
Each day on this Mindfulness Meditation Retreat will offer a sustained schedule of formal meditation practice (both sitting and walking practice), instructions, individual meetings with the teacher and short inspirational talks on different subjects related to our mindfulness practice, as well as facilitation of a group inquiry process, all within an underlying environment of silence.
The retreat programme also includes a longer lunch & rest period to enjoy the beautiful surroundings of Freshwater Bay and its cliffs, which is less than a 15 mins walk from the retreat venue.
The chattering in my head subsided. The disconnection from Twitter meant Trump and Boris allowed me to settle calmly into my body.
Thank you to Susann for being my teacher for the last 14 years who always amazes me with her knowledge of Secular Mindfulness, which definitely is not McMindfulness. Her relocation to The Isle of Wight from London now means I’ll have to maintain my annual visit to the island.
My heartfelt thanks for the wonderful retreat weekend – what a joy it was.
My daily formal practice is now back in place. The work stress I talked about has not returned, and there are many other subtle changes in thought and behaviour that have persisted since coming home – it’s been the most impactful retreat experience I’ve had so far. Thank you.
It was particularly wonderful to experience the weekend as one of playful experimentation rather than an opportunity for the mind to engage in a barrage of negative self-criticism – I feel at this moment very content.
These days my heart is mostly joyful, and I haven’t yet tired of celebrating that!
I really enjoyed having the opportunity to pause the responsibilities of everyday life and focus on my mindfulness practice.
It was fantastic to connect with my practice in a deeper way. I also appreciated the countryside nearby and our thoughtful B&B hosts. I just wish I could come on retreat more often!
This was the first time I had been on a retreat even though I have known Susann for many years.
The guidance was simple and expertly done, as she structured the days. I always felt nurtured and fulfilled by the days' practice, talks and the one-to-one personal guidance. I would definitely recommend doing a retreat to truly unwind and know your deep inner self. It really is very relaxing and calming to the mind and body.
I have endless respect and admiration for the integrity that Susann brings to the practice.
She holds the space with such firm support, but her gentleness allows flexibility and choice.
I practiced a lot of wordless experiencing of things – e.g. in walking practice not thinking ‘I love being outside’ but letting my heart respond – I want to live less in my mind and more in my heart.
I loved this weekend. The setting, the group size. Perfect.
Stunning gardens, delicious food, warm welcome, community spirit and concept behind the community. Seemed the perfect fit for a retreat.
The present moment doesn’t distinguish between newcomers and experienced practitioners. Therefore, you are most welcome to join us, if our Mindfulness Meditation Retreat speaks to you and you are curious when you read this page!
This is the only pre-requisite!
We would love to have you at our retreat and would be delighted to welcome you.
