Our Covid-19 Statement

Your welfare is very important to us!

Therefore despite the easing of Covid-19 measures we, at the Centre for Mindful Living, have made the decision that in general for all our Residential Events in the future, there will be a maximum of 8 people attending.

Please be reassured that all bookings made for this event will be honoured and a forward credit applied if circumstances change due to the virus.

Each day on this Mindfulness Meditation Retreat offers a sustained schedule of formal meditation practice (both sitting and walking), instruction, individual meetings with the teacher and short inspirational talks related to our practice, as well as facilitation of a group inquiry process, all within an underlying environment of silence.

The retreat programme also includes a daily extended rest period for you to enjoy the beautiful surroundings of Freshwater Bay and its cliffs.

The following short Zen story gives you a profound pointer to the Teachings we will be encountering during our time together:

A student is asking the teacher:

“When heat and cold come, how can I avoid them?”

And the teacher answers:
“Go to the place, where there is no heat or cold.”

The student says:
“Where is that place, where there is no heat or cold?”

And the teacher says:
“When it’s cold, shiver. And when it’s hot, sweat.”

Teacher-led Mindfulness Meditation Retreat

Description:

How often do we yearn for safety or comfort in the difficult moments of our lives? Especially nowadays, with current uncertainties, fears or even geopolitical tumults.

Often, we want to find a place where there is no heat or cold.
Where there is no pain, no difficulties.

This is how many of us feel. We truly believe we can control the way things are. If we only knew the right technique, we could be beyond the place of cold and heat.

We develop strategies in the hope of coping better with the ‘full catastrophe’ of life. And sometimes these methods work, for a little while, but we may soon discover that they don’t offer a permanent solution.

What would happen, when we allow the moment to be as it is?
When we stop fighting it.
When we stop trying to fix it.
When we stop running away from it.
When we meet our life as it is!

In mindfulness, we are encouraged to bring awareness to what is present.
And by practicing in this way, we create conditions in which transformation can happen.

We invite you to join us in stillness and silence, to wake up to the beauty of being alive. To encounter life with freshness and wonder.

Our Retreat Community June 2022

No experience necessary!

The present moment doesn’t distinguish between newcomers and experienced practitioners. Therefore, you are most welcome to join us, if our Mindfulness Meditation Retreat speaks to you and you are curious when you read this page!

This is the only pre-requisite!
We would love to have you at our retreat and would be delighted to welcome you. Please get in touch if you have any questions about any aspects of the retreat.

Hill View House is a 5 bedroomed detached house, nestling at the top of the hill in Bedbury Lane Freshwater. The garden has undergone a recent makeover and offers a perfect place to unwind. You will discover 3 pianos in the house which you are invited to use, and a very adorable dog called Charley (double doodle) who loves everyone.

The house is an 8-minute walk to the beautiful Freshwater Bay with Orchards grocery store and the famous Piano Cafe. Farringford (the home of Alfred Lord Tennyson) is situated just across the road!
