Community Sitting Group
The sitting group has offered me a space in which to return to a sense of stillness, belonging, and purpose. I am humbled by the work each one of us in this community is putting in to returning home to the practice, even where there might be resistance to doing so!
It is both illuminating listening to the talks from Susann, and at the same time deeply nourishing to come back to my own practice, with the support of others in the group – just by being there in silence and in sharing their own experiences.
This sense of community supports me far beyond what words can explain, and I am really happy to be here from the beginning to see how it evolves and grows over time.
It is indeed a very special group and one I feel very grateful for. I’m so glad that you have set it up and that we can all access it. I feel very privileged to be amongst a group of such inspiring people.
I was a little unsure of how an online meditation group would compare to being in a room with people and how group dynamics would work with just a screen in front of me.
I’ve been very pleasantly surprised at how quickly the ‘feeling’ of being a part of a group arises and the opportunity to speak alone with other participants is still possible with breakout rooms.
Perhaps the greatest advantage is the convenience of not having to travel and with work commitments, this method makes it possible for me to attend courses and groups.
A fantastic opportunity for anyone wishing to develop their practice further, I’ll continue to use in the future. I am now converted to online groups!
I really liked meeting the other members of the group, it’s amazing how comfortable it is doing a group session online. It shows how connected we all are.
I just wanted to write you a message to say that I really got a lot out of our Community Sit, and especially your talk on Sunday. I felt resistance in the morning because I was discombobulated by being an hour ‘behind’, and had struggled with my practice last week leading up to Sunday, but it was really just what I needed.
I love having my weeks bookended by the Community Sit and it recharges me for my home practice.
I’ve also shared the concept of the ‘secret practice’ with others who meditate – it really resonated with me!
And during our breakout session, we mentioned how nice it was that you shared in the talk your own experiences, and for me, it reinforces the fact that the practice is not about turning me into a perfect/better human (which, as you know, is one of my secret practices!) but about being with who we are, as we are. Thank you for sharing your light!
I wanted to express how much I took away from the talk today especially when you said at the end “we really don’t understand the depth of what we are doing when we sit together and practice like this”. In that moment, the penny dropped – Thank you!
The course is very well structured, and the advice is pragmatic, straight forward and easy to understand. I really liked the fact that Susann made meditation fun. I feel like I have started on a journey of discovery, I’m just sorry I didn’t start it earlier.
When I did the Introductory Day, I was a complete beginner. After the day I definitively have a deeper and new understanding of mindfulness and meditation. Most importantly – I learned a lot of small techniques which are very helpful to have and I now practise these techniques in my everyday life. The course was very intense and inspiring. It was tailored to my individual needs and all specific questions I had were taken into account. Susann is a great teacher. I do warmly recommend the course.
Susann, I just wanted to thank-you for you introducing me to meditation and helping me bring it into my life. It’s really made a difference to me…
It’s made a big impact in my life.
I’m not one of those people who can just sit down and go ‘Ommmm…’, so the Active Meditation approach was a great way of starting. Susann’s style is a unique combination of lots of fun and a serious understanding of her subject. I would recommend this course to anybody who wants to ‘finally’ find a practical way to meditate, which they can apply as soon as they leave the course.
I found the course informative and interesting in a pleasant and relaxed environment taught by Susann who has brought a wealth of experience to the subject. I came away feeling very refreshed with some very good techniques to aid my meditation.
I very much enjoyed the course. I found it very effective, useful and found that it achieved much more than I thought it would in the time allotted.
I came here not knowing what to expect and left with lots of gifts. This workshop has been a fantastic experience. Susann was very friendly, helpful, understanding and extremely experienced. I definitely left with newfound insights which I will be putting into practice in my life…
I found it most useful to have the opportunity to reflect and be still, both in a guided way. I’m really asking myself about suffering (tend to work with other’s suffering!). I really enjoyed and taking away a lot…
The narrated story was very powerful and illuminating and works still in my mind…
I wanted to let you know how much I enjoyed Sunday’s workshop. I found both the guided meditations and writing exercise particularly helpful…
The 5 stages of Acceptance very well taught…
A Day of Practice
Just wanted to drop you a quick email to say thank you again for yesterday’s Retreat Day. I have now had time to digest the day and feel the wonderful aftereffects of spending so much time with ‘me’. I understand now why my partner raves about your teaching.
Thanks for introducing me to meditation and mindfulness. It’s easy to forget during the frustrating moments that it really has already changed my life!
I like the poetry of inspirational teachers. I realise that this is non-religious, but I love the warmth and encouragement of wise people. Susann, you were a lovely guide. Thank you so much.
I have to say the effects of the day have helped me have a wonderful day today – it had the potential to be quite an annoying Monday and I have remained very unflappable! I am sure you will see me at another time in the not-too-distant future. Many thanks again.
Susann continues to impress and inspire me – a truly remarkable woman!
I really did enjoy the day. The atmosphere was very conducive to meditation and I particularly loved the fact that the 60-minute sessions changed posture, which meant I could meditate for longer without getting uncomfortable.
I found most useful the guidance – certain comments /reminders at exactly the right moment. It is wonderful being with like-minded people and having the opportunity to experience a whole day of quiet, just for myself.
Mindfulness based Cognitive Therapy
I attended both the MBCT and MBSR courses in London (Camden Town) about 10 years ago, it must have been the early 2010’s. Prior to discovering mindfulness practice, I was crippled with depression and anxiety with seemingly no means of lifting myself out of the spiral of catastrophic thoughts. It’s no exaggeration to say that these sessions changed my life. You, Susann personally, changed my life.
I hesitate to speak of cure but, 10 years on, these conditions (or predispositions?) are no longer the defining feature of my life, but when they do occasionally manifest, I now have the tools to ensure they do not become the all-consuming burden of previous years. I shudder to think where I may have ended up without your intervention and count myself as very fortunate to have stumbled across the mindfulness-based approaches when I did.
I have tried many therapies in the past – including standard Cognitive Therapy – which I found helpful to an extent. I have also tried yoga and other meditation courses. However, yours is the only course that I have done which has offered me such an insightful and effective way forward. I think that the professional and rigorous way in which you approach your teaching is extraordinary and inspirational!
This MBCT course was my first ever of this kind. As you know, I was very worried before starting, in fact, so worried I convinced myself I didn’t have time to fit it in around work and family responsibilities and tried to back out. Well, I am so pleased that I went ahead with your course.
Aside from the amazing insight, teaching and learnings about mindfulness itself, I wanted to say how grateful I am for the way in which you taught me. I found you to be so professional and personable. You were direct and informative and so present. You heard everything I said and responded in a way that acknowledged that – thank you. I am so glad that my first experience was with you and I know it will not be my last.
Brilliant – loved every minute! I liked how it builds over time, to learn the foundations first, then to graduate to develop our own plan… Susann is a very powerful presenter, and I found the experience very structured with a defined start and finish.
Susann has given me my life back! After being dogged with depression for over a decade, I finally have the tools to prevent myself from slipping into the downward spirals that have taken over so much of my life. I am now calmer, happier and optimistic that the future will be very different.
Best course I’ve ever done! When I started MBCT I was severely depressed. Medication lifted me out of a hole but MBCT has given a reinvigorated perspective on my life, the illness and now to cope with difficulties that come my way. Susann is a truly wonderful teacher – I’m so glad and happy that I embraced this!
A massive thank you to Susann! Throughout the whole course and I’m sure into the future Susann has felt more like a friend than a teacher; never once did I doubt her support or commitment to helping us. It truly made a difference to my motivation and what I managed to draw from this experience.
Thank you, Susann, for your energy and your humanity! I liked the clear and concise teaching; it was well structured, friendly and inclusive – a professional course and considerate training. The fact that this was introduced as training rather than therapy hit the spot!
Do it – you’ll never regret it!
Thank you very much Susann! You’ve always been very encouraging but kind – but not too kind that we can get away with not meditating! Always remember – that this is serious, not a joke! I learnt that I need to be kind to myself. My life is definitely getting better… not the life itself, but how I relate to my experience made me feel that my life has got better even though it has been quite the same really!
Mindfulness based Stress Reduction
I’m not sure if you’ll remember me, since I was part of your Mindfulness-based Stress Reduction (MBSR) group all the way back in 2014, but I have been meaning to email you for some time.
When I first came to your school in London – Camden Town, I was in a very different place in my life and it is only now, with a much greater sense of clarity, that I can really see the turning points, the people and the teachings that truly changed everything for me.
I was really suffering when I joined your course and what a true blessing it was to have found it. What at the time felt like just scrambling around for anything to ease my anxiety, I can now see was a most beautiful journey and total re-routing of the path I was on.
Your teachings still ring through my ears. Learning about that sacred space between my thoughts, emotions and responses totally rewired the way I deal with my own mind. I am so grateful for the way you enabled me to reframe and see my own thoughts. Learning to listen mindfully is another teaching that has been invaluable. Who knew there was so much more to hear! Your teachings have empowered me to manage and overcome things I never would have thought possible and for that I am so grateful.
I feel extremely blessed that the universe led me to you. Thank you.
I recommend this programme for anyone who wants to find better ways to face the challenges of life, deal with emotions, cope with stress, develop self-compassion, kindness and awareness, and go deep inside yourself to truly know what’s within. Although I’ve been practicing meditation for more than 5 years and attended other courses, this 8-week programme taught me new tools and ways of practice, brought deep questions to light and helped me to deal with stress and other challenging sensations in a healthier and conscious way. I’m glad that I followed my intuition and chose to do it at IC.CML with Susann as she is an amazing person and facilitator, carrying the sessions with joy, attention and openness.
Dear Susann, I just want to write and say an ENORMOUS ‘Thank you’ for all of your support, guidance, kindness and warmth over the past few months while I have been on the course.
I have gained so much insight into myself, and how to deal with life’s ups and downs in a far more positive way. I know, I now have a tool for life, that I can use in pretty much any circumstance.
I have a new way of being and I am eternally grateful to you for showing me how to get there!
You have become a very significant person in my life, and I feel so lucky to have met you! I would not be where I am now without you. Thank you, Susann, with love and giant hugs!
The course made sense to me and had helped me much more than two previous mindfulness courses at a Buddhist centre. Thank you for making it so accessible, grounded and enjoyable.
The course was brilliant – thank you! Group format really enhanced reflection and learning from others. I found, in addition to the teaching, the stories and quotes quite informative and resonating.
Meditation changes my perspective; the doom and gloom disappear and becomes light in the sky!
Susann was excellent – she was an involved and engaging teacher, built great rapport with the group and each session was well planned, executed, and varied as well.
Everybody should spend some time in her company.
What I have learned throughout this 8-week will stay with me for life. I would highly recommend this course to everyone – and I will!
Thanks so much for the course, it really was life changing.
I found your explanation at the end of the last class profound and moving – it was a bit of an epiphany for me about the importance of really living one’s life fully and enjoying the moment.
I would like to thank you for this experience. It has fundamentally changed the way I think – about myself, other people, and about how I experience my life. I’ll be sure to keep on meditating and will aspire to be mindful about whatever things come my way – whether they feel positive, negative or neutral!
